Antibiotics belong to the antimicrobial compounds group and are being used in order to treat various types of infestation in the human body. These drugs are being prescribed rather commonly in the modern medicine. When antibiotics are used properly, they can save person's life. The drug work by injuring bacteria or killing it.
Antibiotic are helpless in fighting the infections caused by the following viruses: flu, colds, sore throats (with the exception when it was caused by strep), bronchitis.
There are 2 groups of antibiotics:
- Bacteriostatic (when microorganisms remain alive but do not reproduce)
- Bactericidal (when microorganisms are already killed but still exist in the organism)
The most important in the antibiotic treatment is to identify the necessary drug that wouldn't do any harm to the host but at the same time would fight the microorganism responsible for the infection. And the effectiveness of the treatment depends on the bacteria resistance to the drug.
